SOUTHEAST OAKVILLE

Oakville is a suburban town that sits on the north shore of Lake Ontario and is a popular enclave for families to grow and thrive. Old Oakville is the closest thing you will find to a quaint US small town and has been rated as one of the top five places to live in Canada. Properties surrounding the town boast spacious lots with sprawling beautifully styled homes.

The 30 kilometre commute into the city is definitely not for the faint at heart. Many prefer the convenience of the Go Train to travel in and out of the city. Oakville offers every opportunity to enjoy a stress free weekend away from the bustling city with its vibrant art scene, amazing restaurants and cafes, and natural scenery. Don’t let the scenic landscape mislead you, Oakville is surprisingly cosmopolitan despite its distance from downtown.

The annual Oakville summer Jazz Festival and popular Waterfront Festival offers plenty of excitement for the entire family. The Waterfront Festival includes small amusement park rides, arts and crafts, food and drink, free concerts headlined by Canadian bands and nightly firework displays. In the past, popular bands such as Jann Arden, Tom Cochrane, Blue Rodeo and Hedley have blessed the stage. Other popular events include For the Love of the Arts Festival and, for golf enthusiasts, the Glen Abbey Golf course, which has been host to many Canadian Open championships. The Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts houses several performances by local and international artists and is a popular venue for the Oakville Symphony Orchestra, Oakville Children’s choir and Oakville Ballet Company.

Schools in the area are a mix of public schools and private, with one of the highest ratios of private schools to student population in the country. The town is home to Appelby College, a private school for grades seven to twelve as well as St. Mildred’s- Lightbourn School, an independent all-girls school.
